Turning a mistake into a beautiful creation everyone loved

Turning a mistake into a beautiful creation everyone loved

Not all mistakes are bad or have to remain mistakes. You just have to be creative and willing to try something new. I discovered the truth of this when making a new batch of bath powder scented soap.

I had been working very hard at making a beautiful pattern of blue and white, my soap was poured in the molds and I was ready to put it up to cured. I looked up and there sat the unopened bottle of fragrance oil. I had been so wrapped up in my pattern that I’d forgotten to add the scent. I had two choices, leave it and sell it as unscented soap or re-batch it using the hot process, which I had never tried before and would ruin by pattern. I decided to give the hot process re-batch a shot.

I poured the soap, which was already starting to setup, in the crockpot to heat back up for remelting. I added my scent and the extra castor oil needed for the re-batch. I ended up needing more color as well but was out of the blue I’d used so added another shade of blue into the mix. After half an hour of stirring and melting, I poured the soap back in the molds and crossed my fingers. When I removed it from the molds a few weeks later, I was excited to see pretty shade of sky blue with white spots, like an almost cloudless blue sky. This soap ended up being both my husband and mom’s favorite soap. The bars are firm, long lasting, have a subtle bath powder smell, and, with the added castor oil, lather beautifully. My husband requests I make more as soon as we’re out.
